If you understand little else that we say here at TheOIGuy.com PLEASE understand that in our opinion ne of THE most important changes in medicine over the last 100 years is involving COMMUNICATION. Patients are more educated, Physicians are more communicative, but at the end of the day its YOUR responsibility to ask the questions AND listen to the answers,. Following is a short summary of the important questions you should be asking:Emphasizing open communication helps improve healthcare outcomes and patient satisfaction.

What Should an OI Patient Actually Ask Their Doctor?

A very practical screening conversation might be:

“Because OI affects collagen throughout the body, should we be paying attention to any cardiovascular issues like valve problems, aortic enlargement, or rhythm abnormalities?”

If symptoms exist:

  • shortness of breath

  • palpitations

  • chest pressure

  • unexplained fatigue

  • reduced endurance

it is very reasonable to ask whether an echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart) or cardiology referral is warranted. Current evidence does not support routine universal echo screening in completely asymptomatic adults with OI, but clinicians are encouraged to have a lower threshold for evaluation when symptoms appear.

Are there any tests that should be done?

Is there a "schedule for these kinds of tests and when should they be done?
