We understand that when youre in the ER there are hundreds of things happening at once and thats nothing once you add in the emotional stress and the thousands, seemingly , of questions coming at you, the caregiver before anyone will even LOOK at the patient.
UNFORTUNATELY to the human eye a young (infant to 6 years old) patient with any type of skelatal issue who is scared, in pain and radically confused by all the lights,sirens and activity can appear to be a victim of some sort of physical abuse.
Yes, we could argue for days over the validity of that, better still how about we assume thats what it looks like and prepare to change that opinion with documented facts, as opposed to screamed opinions.
TO THAT END: we here at TheOIGuy would like to give you some tools that you can use:
1. Parents Prep Doc1 - PPD1 is a 1 page document that you should download, print and prepare NOW. Trying to do so at the time of an incident it FAR to late. see description above. Again 1 page front and back, MOSTLY information to YOU and your OI Patients medical team to educate, facilitate and move treatment along as quickly as possible, without ioutside interference. IF outside folks ARE involved theres things for them as well. Ive seen far too many famalies seperated, even just for one night, when a child needs them the most.
There is one in English on ein Spanish and if someone would like to proofread the spanish Id appreciate it. I know dialects etc. make differences, so relying on automated translation is not always the best.
