HEADS UP, Shoulders BACK, Teeth...straight?
New Study available and looking for participants:
If you're between 12 and 40 and have a clinical diagnosis of OI, this is something you definitely want to look into:
The OIF (
www.oif.org) recently released information about a new study that is looking for folks to participate in to help all of us live a better more confident life!
They are currently recruiting OI folks who are between the ages of 12 and 40 to determine the safety and use of using “invisilign” clear aligners (braces) are useful AND safe for OI folks with a Dental Malocclusion (That's where your upper and lower jaw may not meet or meet completely).
Currently this is ONLY available to citizens here in the US and is not sponsored or in any other way connected to the OIF.
Just for those not aware 'Invisilign' is the brand name for “clear braces” , which are actually custom formed trays that affix to your teeth through the use of magnetic clamps.
My wife, (non OI) has had them for a while, and there are many positive things about them that make them a 'better fit' than traditional metal braces, in our opinion.
They are custom fitted so they take molds on a regular basis to make new trays with the adjustments built in.
They are infinitely more comfortable, my little sister (non OI) wore metal braces as a teen and hated the feeling, the pain and everything about them.
They can be less expensive, of course that takes dental insurance into account, which in my experience only ever covers 50%
I haven't investigated the details of this one, but in many cases the full cost of a device being tested is often covered buy the folks giving the survey.
They are MUCH less obtrusive and obvious than traditional metal braces, on most days I forget she even has them in.
IMHO they can be a GREAT help for those trying to lose weight OR for your partner who REALLY doesn't want to give you part of their cheesecake, since you cant eat while wearing them. If were out she can remove them at the table, but usually just goes in the restroom, pops them out, put them in their case and that in her pocket.
